Training Centre for Gemstone Processing and Jewellery Making
Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) is pursuing to establish a well-equipped Gemstone Processing and Jewellery Making Center, with an objective to offer quality assured and certified training to local labor force at all levels of value addition chain. In this regard, the concerned department of provincial government, KP-TEVTA, is offering a partnership opportunity to State Owned Chinese Companies for Development, Management, and Operations of the entire project under BOO or BOOT framework. Private companies are also welcome.
The intended purpose of establishing this Center is to utilize Chinese expertise in creating a sufficient local base of skillful labor to support the development and sustenance of Gemstone and Jewellery Industry. Training will focus on serving the evolving needs of the sector through education, training and skill development. It will facilitate foreign firms, particularly those from China, to invest in K-P's lucrative Gem and Jewellery Sector.
The Centre is proposed to be equipped with latest machinery, training tools, office space, IT room, teacher training room etc. It will offer quality annual course to about 300 artisans, designers, and students. In addition, this Center will hold conferences and seminars to promote the use of highest standard in business practices in the industry.
At present, KPTEVTA is proposing to build this Center at Risalpur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which is specially designated for Gemstone and Mineral Processing. It is at short drive from Peshawar and is connected to other districts of through new Circular Railway Project. Moreover, the proposed location also carries a status of Export Processing Zone (EPZ). Alternatively, it can be built in or around Peshawar district.
Estimated cost of this entire project is around US$ 5.2 million; including cost of infrastructure, cost of training tools and operating cost. Of this total cost, KPTEVTA would bear US$ 1.2 million, while the remaining investment of US$ 4 million is expected to be made by the partnering company. Alternatively, entire investment may be made by the Foreign partnering organisation or the developer of the SEZ. The operation be run on a commercial basis.
Furthermore, it will encourage and give confidence to more Chinese firms to operate in Pakistan utilizing local manpower.
For facilitation of investors, K-P governmenthas setup professional institutions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade (KPBOIT) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zone Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC), and has also enacted business friendly Industrial and Investment Policies
