Smart Disaster (Flood) Management System Using WSN and Machine learning
In this modern era of communication, timely information of disastrous situation can help in efficient management of the disasters and can possibly reduce not only human loss but infrastructure loss as well. The cost on such a setup is minute in comparison with the efforts to recover from the effects of disasters (flood).
The integration of wireless information and communication technologies can provide us with an efficient, reliable and cost effective system for the management and control of floods. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) makes it easy to detect changes, collect data, communicate, and monitor it through wireless thus increasing the redundancy and the reliability of flood monitoring system.
Taking advantage of WSNs, it is proposed to have a system based on real-time modeling for flood management and control, data collection control, and ultimately an efficient mechanism to predict the intensity of flood and inform the concerned authorities. The use of WSN has made it possible to efficiently coordinate and communicate the information to the different entities of the system.
Developing countries in particular are highly vulnerable to floods owing to factors such as limited resources, lack of appropriate technology, insufficient information and skills; and the inability to adapt to changes. The development of strategies to enhance the ability to adapt to the changing environment are therefore required for reducing vulnerability to disasters.
The system will be implemented in various stages with distributed and centralized control on each of the four levels explored in the project. The project will be implemented in flood prone region along the CPEC route.
The scope of work includes; standardization, commercialization, marketing both at domestic and international levels, The cost of project is Rs.224.00 million.
It's a viable business proposal and can be executed through preferably Public Private Partnership (BOOT/BOT) or any other mode mutually agreed by both the parties. The project is open for all the state-owned, state-supported and private entities. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will facilitate investors for interaction with relevant agencies and is committed to partner with the investor by providing all basic infrastructure in execution of project. The investors friendly security situation already prevails in the province.
