Cargo Terminals and Rail Heads for Special Economic Zone in Central K-P
In order to provide full cargo connectivity of the SEZs and Industrial Estates in K-P to the CPEC trade route, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) aims to establish transportation links for province’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) with Pakistan Railways Network. For this purpose, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zone Development and Management Company is looking for a partner, preferably State Owned or State Sponsored, to establish Cargo Terminals and Rail Heads at SEZs of Central K-P and link these up with main railway line of ML-1. The entire project include development, operation and management of facilities such as railway stations, rail-heads, cargo handling and storage, railway lines and to operate cargo trains. In particular, these facilities will be installed at / located strategically to serve the SEZs and Industrial Estates of Jalozai, Rashakai, Gadoon, Jahangira, Nowshera, Risalpur, Hattar and Peshawar. The main line ML-1, to which rail connection is being sought, is already being upgraded under CPEC framework and it would completed by the end of 2017. Special Economic Zones and Industrial Estates in the central K-P districts are positioned strategically to house the Chinese and foreign industries on the back of CPEC initiative. These will be the major centers of industrial and economic activity in two major economic heartlands of K-P. Cargo handling through rail
network is logical and technically feasible. Companies who are willing to go into partnership with KPEZDMC for development and operations of this project, may sign BOO or BOOT agreement with the latter. It is an ideal opportunity – in particular for a Cargo Handling and Management Company originating from China – to give solid rooting to its business in Pakistan, and to expand business throughout the CPEC corridor. The cost estimates for this project will be developed in collaboration with interested party . To facilitate investors, the government of K-P is offering a number of business-friendly policies under the provincial policies of Investment and Industrialization.
